Why

Many patients enter a radiation therapy room without ever having seen one before. The environment is intimidating, the machine impressive, the vocabulary opaque. Being able to virtually step into the room before their first session, at their own pace, with someone who answers their questions — that changes the relationship with care.

The machine

This room houses a Halcyon linear accelerator (Varian). Unlike traditional linacs where the gantry visibly rotates around the patient, the Halcyon has its entire mechanism enclosed inside a white cylindrical shell that looks like a CT scanner. The patient sees no moving mechanical parts, which makes the experience significantly less intimidating.

For whom

For patients and their loved ones who want to demystify a journey that often starts in the dark. For healthcare professionals who want a visual presentation tool. For anyone curious about what immersive healthcare could become, tomorrow.
